Have Confidence In Your Children (video)
When our children are anxious, hurt or upset, it pierces our soul. Our love for them is so great, we are effected even more than if it was happening to us.
So that leaves us to wonder how we can best respond to lessen their pain and decrease their fear.
First of all, remember, this is their journey. As much as we want to save them all the trouble, we can't take their journey for them. Through these trials and tribulations they are learning how to be in the world. They are learning how to deal with hard things. Teach them skills and have utmost confidence in them.
This confidence with influence them to have confidence in themselves. And this will help them more than you can imagine. Stay with them and stay calm and trusting. Watch this video for more explanation.

When my parents allowed me to do dangerous things, I thought they didn't care, now I wonder if they were not just believing in me, trusting me? I like to look at it from this new perspective. Thank you .
I hoped it helped, I think they were believing in you. You are very capacble, like your mom.
I agree, I see the difference in the way I was allowed to do dangerous things when I was a kid and the way kids these days tend to be wrapped up in cotton wool. We, the older generation, are more confident in taking risks, whereas the younger generation tends to either not like taking risks or go to extremes e.g. base jumping.
I am trying to raise my kids as I was raised, slightly wild, so that they can gain the confidence in themselves to achieve greatness.
By the way, one of my daughters suffered terrible from anxiety last year to the point where she was cutting herself. But she says she has come through it because underneath all the self doubt was strong confidence that she was OK.
She also got a lot of help from Beyond Blue. Anxiety
Interesting perspective. Maybe we need to be somewhere in the middle. Ya know?
It is painful to watch our children go through harmful experiences and it is only natural to want to protect them. Set a good example and show them that life may not be fair but they can learn to recover and by teaching and modeling this they learn on their own how to deal with life's events.
Exactly! Thank you for that well put comment! xo
