Use Valentine’s Day to Help Discover Your Self-Worth

HealthyPlace Mental Health Newsletter

Here's what's happening on the HealthyPlace site this week:

Use Valentine’s Day to Help Discover Your Self-Worth

Use Valentine’s Day to Help Discover Your Self-WorthAre you going to be alone this Valentine's Day? Those without significant others may look down upon themselves for being alone on this "Hallmark Holiday," which can lead to feelings of depression and loneliness. And while many may blame the holiday for bringing these emotions forward, maybe we can use Valentine's Day for something positive; to look at our own negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves.

Self-Love and Self-Worth on Valentine's Day

Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of Valentine's Day, embrace your own self-worth and discover your own self-love. Work on improving your confidence by spending time on your personal passions and accomplishing goals you had set on the back burner (untouched New Year's resolutions, perhaps). If you do not want to spend the day alone, plan an evening with loved ones and surround yourself with people who genuinely care for you. When you are surrounded by positive people, that energy can be contagious.

Plan a day or the weekend around your interests, needs and passions. By fully focusing your energy on you, you will learn more about yourself and appreciate the person you have become. Whether you struggle with depression, bipolar disorder, or another mental health condition, it is crucial to spend time everyday embracing the life you live and recognizing your self-worth.
