Manage Overwhelming Emotions with Healthy Perspectives

Having a healthy perspective calms overwhelming emotions. Switching to a healthy perspective changes everything, especially overwhelming feelings. Find out how.

When I feel overwhelmed by emotions, sometimes the difference between misery and bliss is nothing more than a healthy perspective. You can manage overwhelming emotions with healthy perspectives.

Brainstorm Healthy Perspectives When Overwhelmed

When I’m feeling angry, stressed, depressed, or any of the other emotion that may take away my bliss, I take a moment to take some deep breaths and gain some perspective. More times than not I find myself upset because I have taken someone’s words too personally. Taking the time to look at other perspectives gives me a chance to see things from the other person’s point of view.

Seeking out a healthy perspective is one way we can stay positive.

New Perspectives Don’t Invalidate Your Feelings

Sometimes I feel the tendency to avoid seeing things from a different perspective—one that doesn’t revolve around my viewpoint. I worry that if I see things from another perspective it might invalidate my feelings.

The truth is that seeing things from another person’s perspective doesn’t invalidate your feelings. Seeing things from another perspective helps you gain better insight into the situation and may help you control your emotions.

Healthy Perspectives Free You from Negative Self-Talk

Having a healthy perspective calms overwhelming emotions. Changing to a healthy perspective changes everything, especially overwhelming feelings. Find out how.Having a healthy outlook on a situation can free you from the negative self-talk that often plagues us. When we are so focused on our own negative perspective it can cloud our mind and create a flood of negative thoughts that distort your reality. Stepping out of your own mind to find another perspective on the situation will free you from those negative thoughts and help clear your mind.

One technique that I often use to gain a healthy perspective when negative thoughts arise is called the Three C's. The Three C's stand for catch it, check it and change it. First, you need to catch the negative thought. Next, test this thought against reality. This is where your healthy perspective comes into play. Finally, change to the thought into something positive based on your new perspective.

Getting overwhelmed seems to be part of the human condition. We likely will never get to a place where we don’t feel overwhelmed. But we can all get to a place where we avoid misery and run toward bliss by stopping to gain a healthy perspective on the situation.

Too much negativity just makes a person negative and paranoid, like me. Need to be active to reduce the negative surroundings. Jogging and walking can help. Good conversation with someone can help. Good ideas in article.
