Have Faith Even When a Bipolar Trigger Strikes

March 25, 2010 Cristina Fender

There was a noise in our car that had been there for a while. So, we went to Pep Boys to have it checked out. It turned out that the noise was a bad rotor in the brake system, but the break pad was fine. It was nothing to worry about right now. The car would still run fine. However, while they were there, they found out that the radiator was leaking. It cost $309 to fix it. I immediately went into stressed out mode. We had money to fix it, but just barely and we’d be sitting tight until the end of the month. I freaked out. I hate bills. They are always a trigger for a bipolar episode to start.

Stress always triggers a bipolar episode for me.

So stress is the one thing that I’m really working hard on right now to eradicate. Stress will never be gone, but I have to learn to deal with it better. Today was better than most. But, I hadn’t meditated yet when I received the news about the car. My self-talk kicked in and, although it was negative, it wasn’t as bad as usual. I know that this was not my fault and I needed to remind myself of that. My husband went out to pick up the car and I immediately went into a dark room and did two meditations to relieve the stress. I felt so much better.

I can handle stress.

So, the meditation is working, the self-affirmations are working and I’m feeling better. I can do this. I think sometimes I have to be my own cheerleader to get myself off the ground. It’s important to think well of yourself. Your self-esteem needs a boost to make it through the hard times. You have to think positively. Negativity will just drive you into the ground. Nobody wants to get trampled on. Triggers just trample all over your bipolar self. It’s important to emerge victorious when a bipolar trigger comes lurking. You can’t let anything lead you into the dark.

The light is where you want to be. Bathe yourself in the light and ignore the trigger for your bipolar episode to start. Combat it with positive affirmations and faith. I know it’s a hard thing to have faith. How can you put faith in something that has failed you in the past? Dust yourself off. This is a new beginning.

A few psychologists said I had bipolar but I don't ever feel manic ~~ just really bad depressive episodes, and a lingering depression every day. I wish I could beat this without any medication as all of them have bad side effects. Any advice?

Babette,
I'd go for one more opinion. If you're still getting a bipolar diagnosis then you need to start listening as to what you should be taking to cure yourself. Not all medications have bad side effects. Medications are different for everyone. One medication may cause side effects in one person while not another. The only way to know if you have bad reactions is to take the drug.
Good luck with everything and thanks for commenting.
