Transform Triggering Emotions with Appreciation
Over the past month I’ve discovered that at any moment I can transform triggering emotions into happier ones. Wouldn't you rather be happy by transforming your triggering emotions?
I don’t like to think of emotions in and of themselves as negative—they are, after all, just how we feel. But I do think that "triggering emotions" induce negativity, so it’s important to learn how to control your emotions. I’ve learned that the best way to transform triggering emotions is with appreciation.
Show Appreciation For Triggering Emotions
Countless studies have shown that practicing gratitude can boost your wellbeing. I think it’s important to show appreciation for emotions that trigger your negativity because those emotions do serve a purpose in our path to an honest and fulfilling life.
How To Appreciate Triggering Emotions
Like many people I struggle with insecure thoughts. Fear and rejection are triggering emotions I often feel. Here is how I transform those triggering emotions with appreciation.
When I feel overwhelmed with rejection I literally say, “Thank you, rejection, for reminding me that I don’t need outside validation to feel worthwhile. You have served your purpose. I do not need you anymore.”
The same can be applied for fear. When I’m afraid I might say, “Thank you, fear, for reminding that I can accomplish obstacles even when they are scary. You have served your purpose. I do not need you anymore.”
