What is Bliss? What Does Living A Blissful Life Mean?
Bliss is a magnified emotional state of joy, personal fulfillment and happiness. Think back to when you were a young child and, on Christmas day, you opened your presents to find you got exactly what you wrote on your list. All at once, it was a heightened sensation of excitement, joy, fulfillment and happiness that overtook you. Or can you recall a time when you came to the rescue of someone in tremendous need and their expression of gratitude filled you with a feeling of joy, fulfillment and happiness?
Life is a pilgrimage. The wise man does not rest by the roadside inns. He marches direct to the illimitable domain of eternal bliss, his ultimate destination. ~ Swami Sivananda
Living a Blissful Life is a Journey
Living a blissful life is a journey. You have to want to be that person who marches directly towards a magnified emotional state of joy, fulfillment and happiness rather than one that rests by the roadside. Our lived experiences are different and nearly all come with major life changes. Some come with a period of struggle that rocks our very foundation, like the death of a loved one, or divorce, a job loss, or discovering you have a serious mental health condition. But even in this, living a blissful life is achievable, if you believe it.
Steps For Achieving a Blissful Life
A blissful life is within your reach. However, not everyone is going to experience bliss in the same way. The lens by which you view life shapes how you will define your idea of bliss. But just imagine living in such an amazing state. The very foundation of achieving bliss rests on believing in and living a life of faith, gratitude, intention, understanding and peace.
Each day:
- Focus on what fuels you and lifts up others.
- Focus on what yields meaning and purpose in your daily life.
- Pay attention to what you are paying attention to.
- Check self-centeredness.
- Converge on love, forgiveness, understanding, compassion, humility and harmony with others.
- Do more of this.
Perhaps, it’s inconceivable that this can be sustained. But, you are the architect of the change you desire to see, therefore empowered to create and sustain bliss as you see it.
Declare Your Bliss
If you have experienced such a state of bliss even once, imagine living it every day. Of course, there are periods when life can bring to bear times of dissatisfaction and sadness. But how you respond to those times is up to you. And, it is a choice. The path to everyday bliss must be nurtured by you. The Dalai Lama tells us, “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.”
Declare your bliss. Visualize what it feels like. Decide what actions you need to take to achieve that state. And take the first step to make it so!
Live your best life and live it blissfully!
What’s your idea of bliss? Can you describe that last time you felt bliss?

If it's a matter of simply wanting it bad enough I should have it figured out by now. No such luck. I'm 49 and cannot remember the last time I felt a sense of joy. I'm happy enough, but joyful I am not despite my efforts. I think lots of people are in my spot.
I just went through a tremendous P.T.S.D experience last weekend

For me striving for bliss is a daily struggle. I have become more connected to a church which has helped me make connections with more people. I have to recognize my gratitude daily. Exercise helps me as well. Each person has to make their own happiness and obviously each person's is different. If you don't even try to achieve it your life becomes a daily rut with little joy and happiness.
How about bliss being where you are this moment - and when life changes that is also bliss because it is where you are now. Judgement free, circumstance free, understanding has its root in I am.
I feel episodes of bliss everyday, I'm trying to achieve more and more each and everyday... I hope you people find your happiness too!
