Leaving the 'Binge Eating Recovery' Blog

July 14, 2020 Victoria Peel-Yates

The time has come for me to move on from the Binge Eating Recovery blog here at HealthyPlace. Sharing my recovery process here has been an interesting experience, and I hope you gained insights and tools that help you on your binge eating recovery journey. Here are some parting thoughts I wanted to share with you.

Don't Suffer Alone

As I've written about previously on this blog, shame is one of the biggest obstacles that people with binge eating disorder face on their road to recovery. Shame is inherent in the emotions that surround binge eating disorder, leading many sufferers to keep this painful secret to themselves. This is a sure-fire way to perpetuate the binge-shame-binge cycle. Remember the old adage — a problem shared is a problem halved — so talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist about what's going on.

Be Kind to Yourself

Binge eating can make you spiral into self-loathing. The more you binge, the more negative thoughts you have towards yourself. The more negative thoughts you have, the more you binge. Learn to catch those negative thoughts and stop them in their tracks — especially after a binge. In fact, be extra kind to yourself after a binge. If you notice the negative thoughts creeping in, do something nice for yourself, like calling a friend or taking a walk in nature.

Binge Eating Is Not the End of The World

Know that it's okay if you binge. It does not decrease your worth as a person or make you any less deserving of love. If you're in recovery and you binge, don't turn it into a catastrophe. There's no need for an all-or-nothing mentality — just pick yourself up and carry on where you left off. Be kind to yourself and lean on those you trust for support.

Hello Victoria, I have read your post and they are amazing. They helped my brother and lots of other people to get better with binge eating.

Hello,
I really liked this read, everything you had to say really came as a comfort.
Binge eating had always been a problem of mine. Even more so because I suffer from thyroid problems. It's so nice to know I am not alone in this.
Lately I have been trying the Custom Keto Diet and really seeing the difference. However reading blogs and post like this really keeps me going.
If anyone would like to try with me here is the link.
