Many people who suffer with undiagnosed depression or anxiety turn to alcohol or drugs to relieve their depression or calm their nerves. The term for that is self-medicating. Chris Boutte is one of those people. “I started developing symptoms of anxiety and depression in high school, which resulted in me self-medicating with drugs and alcohol for many years.” Eventually, for Chris, self-medicating turned into a full-blown addiction that almost took his life.
