The Struggle of Mental Health in Your 20s

October 22, 2015 Kristen Virag

There is a struggle for many with mental health in their 20s. Some say your 20s are the best years of your life. Being young definitely has its advantages, and a lot of people wish they could stop time and stay young forever. It is great not having to worry about wrinkles, and knowing that your physical body is in its prime condition. But why do so many people in their 20s struggle with mental health issues? When young people are supposed to be fit, driven, and with their whole lives ahead of them, why are so many unhappy and suffering with issues such as depression, anxiety and panic?

Feeling Incomplete in Your 20s and Mental Health Struggles

Struggling with your mental health is normal in your twenties. Anxiety and depression are very common when trying to find yourself. Here's some advice for you.

In your 20s, there's still so much to learn about oneself and you're only at the beginning of this journey. So, of course, you are more likely to be influenced by others and feel insecure. You can often get hurt a lot easier, as opposed to when you know yourself one 100 percent. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe anyone is ever complete -- you're always growing and this is the beauty of life.

However, it's common in your 20s to place emphasis on things that you one day might find insignificant like money, looks and status, for example. So many young people suffer depression and anxiety because they feel they're not good enough. Many males feel the pressure to succeed financially and if they don't, then they are failures. How many of us worrying about finding our soulmates just because all of our friends are in relationships? Eating disorders are most common in young women, with many of them just crying out to feel good enough and loved.
