I say. I was on ABC-TV's 20/20 show three years ago to talk about my
difficulty. medications that i've tried don't seem to help and i can't seem to
find a place to get effective help for my problem. (i am a "graduate"
of the ucla ocd day treatment program; i was their most brilliant failure. i
was also the focus of one of their ph'd candidaties thesis'. for the last
several years i have also done telephone support for other sufferers. i was the
west coast representative for oca (a twelve step support group) until my
telephone got cut off (can't control my compulsive spending either!) i've read
many of the proscribed texts by the "experts" in the field; the best
"expert" in my humble opinion is the person who "suffers with
the disorder daily; not just someone who has textbook knowledge or merely
observed the behavior and formulated a speculated idea from the experience.)

(ex-fiancee). Looking for information about what it's like to be a partner of
someone with OCD. Seeking information that will help our relationship be
successful and not paralyzed by this disorder. Boyfriend especially has trouble
with decision-making ... wants everything to be exactly perfect and in order,
prior to moving ahead and making a decision ... thus the reason our wedding was
put on hold. Trying to determine whether my needs will get met in a
relationship that keeps going in circles due to OCD. What do I need to accept

it can get better. I'm a pure obsessive. Try to get away from you mind! I have
gotten better over the last couple of years. Sometimes there are new aspects of
OCD that rear their ugly heads. What ever is going on in my life is what it
dwells on. But I AM better. You learn tricks and meds that can control
it. |

many years. I have a wonderful family & job but OCD is still there. I
struggle with VERY INTRUSIVE thoughts, I know I will never act on them but they
are there. I also have trouble doing simple things like vacuming and laundry
because if the word devil or red comes up in my mind I have to do it OVER and
OVER. I am a really good at keeping this to myself, my husband knows I have OCD
but he never sees me do things over again. Hope to hear from you soon.

handling meats. (I had saminolla-almost died , yr.s ago.) Now, because of all
the media coverage of people contaminating others through improper hand washing
after bathroom use, I'm terrifed I might do that to my child. I wash like I'm
performing surgery. My health in general is not good, due to other things that
happened. My life has been one that seems to have attracted in mass, what
others might exp. one item of. It, as well as alot of responsibility, has just
tired me out. I'm not able to take med.s they all make me severly ill anymore.
My body is HYPER-sensative. Need to talk to people who have been where I'm at.
Prefer people who are/were single parents when this happened to them. Thanks,

contamination type ocd. I am quite severe in that this disorder has taken over
my life, and I am struggling to survive each day. I fear contamination from the
excretions of others,ie saliva blood, urine etc I have an overwhelming fear
that I will contract HIV from people and surfaces. I wash compulsively and this
reduces my anxiety and is destructive. I have been on high doses of medication
started with prozac then moved to cipramil, cipramil augmented with rispadal,
and now I'm on 225mg Anafranil. I find that medication does definitely help me,
and I can't progress without it , but it reaches a certain place which I call a
plateau and doesn't help me further, I have started Behaviour therapy But there
is in essence only one behaviour therapist treating Ocd in the whole of South
Africa and she cannot do home visits because she is overworked and lives too
far from me I believe I have reached a desperate stage where I need urgent
daily intensive help. Intensive because I cannot see myself suffering to this
degree for a prolonged period of time, I feel that an intensive therapy program
like they have in the USA could be the answer for me , because the ocd centres
I have seen on the internet claim to help people a lot They claim to do
intensive 3 week behaviour therapy involving exposure and response prevention
and this seems to be the most effective help and the quickest. I am looking to
communicate with other ocd sufferers , particularly those with contamination
and compuslsive washing who have undergone an intensive program as described
above and who have benefited or not from such treatment, I am desperate for
answers and would like fellow sufferers or anyone who has heard of what I am
describing ,to please email me and give me their ideas or their success stories
, I desperatly need hope and suggestions of what I could do in my situation. I
have a husband and a 2year old child who are suffering too because of my

| Comments - Hi. I'm 24 years old. I've
suffered from anxiety, depression and obsessive-compulsivness since my early
teens. I had my first panic attack 3 years ago and in the last year my attacks
seem to have intensified my obsessive-compulsiveness. I've never actually been
diagnosed because of my anxiety (fear of leaving the house) problem. Although,
I have great reason to believe I have either OCD or OCPD. I understand there is
quite a difference. I'm leaning more towards the OCPD and would like to talk
with someone that suffers from Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder. I
feel like I have no control over my mind. I'm obsessed with organization,lists
and the order of things. Everything I do has to abide by certain rules. I feel
like I'm being suffocated by this. I have to check and repeat things over and

After searching, reading and talking, I now know my OCD and Anxiety disorder go

my main problem is that I'm very rigid with myself (more than others, I think).
I also have a lot of autoimmune problems, having been dx'ed with MS,
CFIDS/Fibromyalgia, OA, and possible lupus. I just want to be able to offer
