Signs and Symptoms
of an Eating Disorder Relapse

Anorexia: When signs of a relapse appear, the patient should always contact the medical doctor and therapist immediately. Signs of relapse may include weighing 5 pounds or more below the assigned target weight; an increase in any addictive behavior (food-related behaviors, exercise, drugs, or alcohol); a decrease in appetite or ability to eat; a recurrence of purging, laxative, diuretic, diet pill or enema use; or a marked increase or decrease in sleep.

Bulimia: When signs of relapse appear, the patient should always contact the internist and therapist immediately. Signs of relapse may include increase or decrease tn weight that is 5 pounds or more out of target range; increase in any addictive behavior (food, exercise, drugs, alcohol); decreased appetite or ability to eat; reoccurrence of binge eating, purging or vomiting; use of diet pills or diuretics; or marked increase or decrease in sleep.
